It is projected to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm before landfall, with maximum sustained wind speeds of 90–100 km/h and gusts up to 110 km/h.

Andhra Pradesh is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in the Rayalaseema region and eight southern districts of Odisha. Northern Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka are also expected to experience substantial rainfall, ranging between 115 mm and 210 mm, until Tuesday. The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rain exceeding 210 mm in 24 hours in certain areas.
Preparedness and Evacuations
In anticipation of Cyclone Montha’s landfall, authorities in Andhra Pradesh have initiated mass evacuations from low-lying coastal areas, relocating thousands to temporary relief camps. Educational institutions have been closed until Wednesday, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed. The Indian Army is on high alert, coordinating with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and state governments to ensure readiness for relief and rescue operations.

The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along and off the Odisha coast until Wednesday due to anticipated squally weather with wind speeds reaching 45–55 km/h, gusting up to 65 km/h. Gale winds up to 80 km/h are expected between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to stay indoors and follow official advisories to ensure safety.
