In August 2025, Megadeth announced their seventeenth and concluding studio album, simply titled “Megadeth.” The album’s lead single, “Tipping Point,” was released on October 3, 2025, showcasing the band’s enduring thrash metal prowess. This album also introduces guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari and marks the return of bassist James LoMenzo, who last appeared on the 2009 album “Endgame.”
Revisiting “Ride the Lightning”
Fans have speculated about the inclusion of “Ride the Lightning” after Megadeth shared a teaser with faintly visible track titles, one of which appeared to be the Metallica classic. Mustaine, who was dismissed from Metallica in 1983 before the release of their debut album, has writing credits on several of their early songs, including “Ride the Lightning” and “The Call of Ktulu.” In a June 2025 interview with Norwegian radio station Stjernepose, Mustaine hinted at this inclusion, stating, “One of the songs is a cover song, but I actually wrote it, so it’s kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.”
