Israel Maintains Gaza Aid Blockade Amid Intensified Military Operations
As of November 2, 2025, Israel continues to enforce a comprehensive blockade on humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis. The blockade, now in its eighth month, has led to severe shortages of essential supplies, including food, medicine, and fuel, placing the 2.4 million residents of Gaza at heightened risk of famine and disease.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that over 3,000 aid trucks loaded with lifesaving supplies are stalled at Gaza’s borders due to the blockade. This obstruction has resulted in 83% of required food aid failing to reach the enclave, causing the average daily meal intake to plummet from two meals to one every other day. Additionally, the blockade has led to the closure of six World Food Programme-subsidized bakeries, further limiting access to food.
Medical facilities are also severely impacted. The Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, one of the few operational public hospitals, has suffered multiple attacks, including a strike on October 29 that targeted its surgical department, resulting in casualties. The lack of medical supplies and ongoing hostilities have rendered healthcare services nearly inoperable.
International Condemnation and Calls for Action
International bodies and humanitarian organizations have condemned the blockade. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has stated that the humanitarian response in Gaza is on the verge of total collapse, emphasizing the urgent need for the resumption of aid deliveries. Legal experts have labeled the deliberate deprivation of necessities as a prosecutable war crime under the Rome Statute.
Despite these appeals, Israeli authorities maintain that the blockade is a necessary measure to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages. However, critics argue that using aid as a political tool constitutes collective punishment, violating international humanitarian law.
Escalation of Military Operations
In parallel with the aid blockade, Israel has intensified military operations in Gaza. On October 29, Israeli airstrikes resulted in over 100 Palestinian deaths, including 46 children, and injured 253 others. These strikes targeted senior Hamas commanders and infrastructure deemed threats by Israeli authorities. The escalation followed accusations that Hamas violated the ceasefire by misrepresenting the return of a hostage’s remains.
The ongoing blockade and military actions have led to widespread displacement, with over 600,000 Palestinians forced from their homes.
