Bangladesh’s T20I captain, Litton Das, has experienced a series of significant events in his cricketing career over the past year, marked by record-breaking performances and notable challenges.
Record-Breaking Achievements
On September 4, 2025, during the third T20I against the Netherlands at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Litton Das scored 73 runs off 46 balls. This innings propelled him past Shakib Al Hasan, setting a new national record with 14 fifty-plus scores in T20Is. Despite the match being abandoned due to rain, Bangladesh had already secured the series 2-0.
Earlier, on July 13, 2025, in the second T20I against Sri Lanka at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Das delivered a stellar performance, scoring 76 runs. This knock not only contributed to Bangladesh’s victory but also highlighted his consistent form in the T20I format.
Injury Setbacks
During the Asia Cup 2025, Litton Das faced an unfortunate injury. On September 24, 2025, he suffered a rib injury during a practice session, rendering him unavailable for the Super Fours match against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In his absence, Parvez Hossain Emon, Rishad Hossain, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib were brought into the playing XI.
Exclusion from Champions Trophy Squad
In January 2025, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, notably excluding Litton Das due to concerns over his recent form. In the preceding three-match ODI series against the West Indies, Das managed to score only six runs. Addressing his exclusion, Das acknowledged his underperformance and expressed a commitment to improving his game.
IPL Participation and Replacement
In the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Litton Das was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at his base price of ₹50 lakh. However, after playing just one match against the Delhi Capitals, he was dropped from the team. Subsequently, KKR named West Indies batter Johnson Charles as his replacement for the remainder of the season.
