The New York Giants have terminated head coach Brian Daboll following a 2-8 start to the 2025 NFL season. This decision comes after the team’s 11th consecutive road loss, a 24-20 defeat to the Chicago Bears on November 9, 2025.

Early Success and Subsequent Decline

Daboll, appointed in January 2022, initially led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record in his first season, culminating in a playoff victory against the Minnesota Vikings. This achievement earned him the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award. However, the team’s performance declined in the following seasons, including a 10-game losing streak in 2024 and ongoing struggles in 2025.

Critical Decisions and Defensive Challenges

During the recent loss to the Bears, Daboll faced criticism for opting to kick a field goal on a 4th-and-goal situation from the 1-yard line, rather than attempting a touchdown. This decision was part of a pattern of late-game collapses, with the Giants allowing 115 points in the fourth quarter this season. Notably, in an October 19 game against the Denver Broncos, the team surrendered 33 points in the final quarter, resulting in a 33-32 loss.

Uncertain Future for the Giants

General Manager Joe Schoen’s position is also under scrutiny as the organization contemplates its next steps. The Giants are now in search of their sixth head coach since 2015, aiming to stabilize the franchise and return to competitive form.
