Battlefield 6 Launches Free-to-Play Battle Royale Mode ‘RedSec’ in the United States

Electronic Arts (EA) has officially released “Battlefield: RedSec,” a free-to-play battle royale mode for Battlefield 6, on October 28, 2025. This new mode is available across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

RedSec: A New Battlefield Experience

RedSec, short for “Redacted Sector,” introduces players to Fort Lyndon, a massive map set in a war-torn California environment. The mode supports up to 100 players per match, with options for duos and squads of four. A distinctive feature of RedSec is its high-stakes zone mechanic, where the encroaching ring eliminates players instantly upon contact, adding a heightened level of urgency to gameplay.

Integration with Battlefield 6

While RedSec operates as a standalone experience, it is closely integrated with Battlefield 6. Players who own the main game can access RedSec directly through the Battlefield 6 menu. For those without the base game, RedSec is available as a separate download, ensuring accessibility for a broader audience.

Additional Features and Content

Alongside the launch of RedSec, EA has introduced “Gauntlet,” an intense squad-based competitive mode within RedSec. This mode pits eight teams of four against each other in round-based missions, emphasizing strategic teamwork and adaptability. Additionally, the release coincides with the start of Battlefield 6’s first season, “Rogue Operations,” which brings new maps, weapons, and a 100-tier battle pass to the game.

Competitive Landscape

The release of RedSec positions EA to compete directly with other popular free-to-play battle royale titles, such as Call of Duty: Warzone. In response, Activision has made Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s multiplayer and Zombies modes free from October 28 to November 3, 2025, aiming to retain player engagement during RedSec’s launch period.

With its unique gameplay mechanics and integration with the broader Battlefield universe, RedSec offers a fresh experience for both veteran players and newcomers to the franchise.
